beat the line ups in Rome

I am trying to book a tour of the colosseum in Rome for this weekend however on Coopculture we can't book a tour. It says it offers them but navigating the site shows only an entrance fee; nothing for guided tours. Weird. Has anyone a suggestion on how to beat the line and possibly join a tour? Roma Pass? We will be there Sun and Mon and need to use Monday to get into the Vatican. Again…hoping to get a jump on the long lines. Any thoughts?

Best way to book anything with Coopculture is to use the phone. They speak very good English. Just make sure you phone during Italian office hours.

If the tours are sold out, calling won't help. The tour of the Underground and Third Ring is definitely sold out for this weekend. I don't know why the regular tour (first and second ring) doesn't have a "Buy Now" button, but perhaps because it's also sold out.

Just buying the entry tickets allows you to skip the ticket line, and buying them online (rather than calling) gives you the option to print them at home. This gives you more flexibility, because then, if you like, you can use the ticket to visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill before the Colosseum.

Be sure to read the safety alert on this page:

We had to wait almost an hour to get in last year, even though we had tickets already, because there were too many people inside. September is one of the busiest months of the year.

Check Walks of Italy. We did a great tour with them that included the top tier and the underground of the Colisseum and The Forum. Great tour and you do skip the line.
