Bears repeating, suggestions for getting helpful info faster and being helpful to others

Author: Art ([email protected])
Date: 10/29/2000, 5:32 pm ET

Message: How do you apply for the Pompes Ass
club? I've been on this forum for a little over a
year and wish I had found it earlier. I ignore (for
the most part) the rude/nasty ones and just don't
respond (except for a thread that I started about
6 mos ago on this subject. It doesn't take me
long to see if I want to follow ore reply to a
thread. If you are complaining about a few people
hogging the forum, just remember that anyone
can reply. There are so many people that have
traveled far more extensivly than I that they have
the most knowledge and can give the best
answers. I can only answer based on my
experiances (some of which are quite old) and
respond only sometimes when no one has
responded and I may have some dated
knowledge or to try to point them to do a search
on a topic that I may have seen. I try not to
respond to jerks because doing so just gives them more time in the top 50. I'm not going to change them so just ignore them.

Cut & pasted from the resurrected 'When did this marvelous european forum...' thread by an amateur trollmaster.

Don't get the point of this posting?

Art sounds decent and makes sense.
I find it hard to refrain from responding to the mean spirited souls (or is it just one big psychopathic jerk with multiple names: noname, whocares,
trynot2Brude,bigname, JR, inky, allthesame, etc?). But doing so does put their inanities at the top and forces the substantive postings on difficult topics, or the sweeter whimsical postings, below the "headline" level.
So.....
SUGGESTION: NICE PEOPLE -- keep adding a
comment to the "travel" postings that may really need an answer to keep them alive. OK?
(yes, cut and pasted)

Keep right on to the end of the troll...

The fact of the matter is that there are people on this forum who have been appointed the experts. They are critical of folks who want to do the whirlwind trips through Europe. They are critical of insecurities that others have about traveling abroad ("Why don't you just stay home!!!") They often answer posts this way: "I can't answer your question but I'm sure that Art, the Fowlers, Veronica, Nigel or the beloved Elivra Queen of Travel could help you. They write headers that say: "Going to (insert city here), BenHaines, can you help." Which suggests that no one else can. It's fun to share travel info and it's irksome to have it discounted so quickly by a clique. I think Art is already in the Pompess Ass Club. In fact, I would vote for him as president.
