Beaches near Rome

I will be spending 4 of 5 days in Rome this summer (mid-July) and was looking for a nearby beach to take a day trip to. I read that Lido di Ostia is easily accessible by train but may be a bit overcrowded.

Has anyone had any experience with the beaches in Lido di Ostia? Are the private beaches expensive? Are they worth it?

If anyone has any other beach recommendations, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!

Lido di Ostia is grubby and crowded.

Google Lavinio Lido, Ladispoli, Santa Marinella and Fregene. I know the train goes to Lavinio (though it's a bit of a hike from the station to the ocean) - not sure about the others but you can check on Trenitalia.

Several years ago my husband and I spent several days languishing in the crystal clear waters and of the expansive soft sandy beach of Sperlonga. We had wonderful seafood dinners at quite an amazingly fair price.
Please take a minute to glance at these sits.

Oh, Sperlonga is absolutely wonderful, but you have to take a train and then a bus to get there - not a big deal, but a little more complicated.

If you plan on visiting Ostia Antica then it would be worth spending the rest of the day at Lido di Ostia. I visited Ostia Antica last July in the morning rain and spent the afternoon in the sun at Tibidabo Beach (stabilimento balneare). From Ostia Antica I hopped back on the train and got off at Stella Polare stop. From there I walked 10-15 minutes to the beach and then along side Lungomare looking for this private beach club. I remember paying around 7 euros and that might have been for 1/2 day, but it was all I needed. I was alone on the beach with two other single guys.

Returning to the train station I attempted to take a bus but after a long wait I decided to walk. All in all, the afternoon on the beach made up for the 3 1/2 hours spent at Ostia Antica. I did not expect it to be so tranquil and relaxing in July.

Many years ago I spent a day at the beach in Fregene and I do remember it being crowded
