Beaches near cruise ports
My extended family is taking a Med Cruise next summer. My husband doesn't enjoy cruises because he says they just stop in ports to shop. I promised beaches in Greece (along with ancient sites of course.) Does anyone know good beaches on Corfu, Rhodes, Mykonos & Santorini that are easy to reach from the cruise ports? We have one day in each port. Also any scuba info would be great.
Thanks! |
Just returned from Rhodes and I saw many cruise ship come and go. You can certainly walk to the city beach from the port dock. The city rents the cushioned lounge chairs and umbrellas for 3.50e per day. Bring your own beach towel and the beach is stoney, so aqua slippers make it easier to walk on it. The Aegean Sea is very clean and wonderful to swim in -- I hope you get a chance to do it. Many vendors nearby sell drinks/food.
You can also easily walk into old town from the commercial docks -- they have an enterance and it is fun to walk through the old town. Cobblestone streets - wear good shoes. The Palace of the GrandMaster is interesting but I like the little Art Museum housed in the Knight's hospital better. There was a boat (maybe a couple) which did advertise scuba excursions. You may want to do a search or contact a local travel agent to prearrange an excursion. We were quite surprised at how full the boat trips were .. the cruises really bring the tourists so if it is something you want to do -- I would book it ahead of time. |
I agree with your husband. However, Mykonos has some great beaches if you can get the time.

You can take a public bus on Santorini to several beaches. We went to Kamali Beach. All the amenities are available beachside. Bus is within walking distance of where you get off of the funicular. It only cost about $2.
