Bayswater area - help!

Can anyone give me information on the Bayswater area in London - will be staying in this area and know nothing about this location.
Thanks,
Sue

It's an okay area...there are better areas certainly and there are worse areas.

One of the nice things is there are 2 Underground lines serving the area...the Central line at Queensway station and the District/Circle line station at Bayswater. One the corner of Bayswater Rd. you can catch the #12 bus which is a super bus line that goes past a lot of the tourist sites and you can switch on Oxford St. to the #15 which goes by St. Paul's and the Tower of London.

Lots of inexpensive restaurants all up and down Queensway including Chinese, Lebanese and Italian.

Some people point out that a lot of Middle Easterners have moved into the area and there are lots of young people there much of the time.

So on a scale of 1 to 10 as a place to stay, I'd give it a 5 or 6. If you got a good deal on your hotel, you could do worse.

I think Bayswater is a great area to stay. Besides the two tube lines and many restaurants there is also Whitely's shopping center with M&S etc. Also you are practically on the doorstep of Kensington Palace and just a short walk across Kensington park is Kensington High Street with all the great shops and restaurants and Kensington Church St with antique shops etc.
Bayswater is an area I have chosen to stay. Have a good trip :-)

I've stayed in various ares of London and really enjoyed my stay in Bayswater last summer. The atmosphere is different there or something...
Where exactly are you staying?

Mischka - Kensington High street was great - though not for my pocketbook!

Bayswater is a great area to stay in. Queensway has a great multicultural vibe with lots of good, cheap Middle Eastern, Ethiopian, Chinese and Indian restaurants. There are also lots of more traditional English pubs, and there's great tube access (Lancaster Gate, Queensway and Bayswater stations).
As for those people "who point out that a lot of Middle Easterners have moved into the area," London's multiracial, multicultural character is what makes it a great world city.

Julie, I love to browse even when I can't really afford to buy, like at Harrods and Liberty and I often end up buying something small. I have often bought things in the more expensive shops because they have had wonderful specials. There is a great needlepoint shop just off Kensington High street which I usually visit and then there is the awful(IMHO) market, but most teenagers love it. Happy shopping on your next trip :-)
