Bayeux Tapestry to be loaned to England?

This might happen in 2022. Maybe it's time we finally got around to going to Bayeux.

We're finally going in the fall and your title made me fear I was going to miss it.

The article I read said that they're not even sure yet if it can travel. That will be determined in 2020 when the tapestry is restored. It has only been moved twice in the past 950 years -- once by Napoleon and another time by the Nazis in 1944.

I assume there will be a time during the restoration that it is not on display. It’s probably worth checking when it will be available if you’re planning a trip.

Good point! Didn't think about that.

Definitely worth making a trip to see it.

The Bayeux Tapestry is heading 'home' - but is it a French stitch-up?

I heard that on NPR this morning and thought it was kind of strange. An old tapestry like that is much more fragile than a painting. Besides, Normandy isn't that far from England that those folks couldn't go look at it in Bayeux if they really wanted to see it, and it shows the defeat of the English, also.

But I think I heard the reason is that the Bayeux Museum is going to be closed for restaorations, so I guess that makes sense rather than no one being able to see it during that time, if they can do it safely.
