Bayeux Restaurants
 

I posted earlier about planning a brief 2-day trip to Normandy for my supervisor and his family in late December Thanks to your help, I have make a hotel reservation in Bayeux. Most places were closed but I was able to find a place to accommodate him. I'm working on arranging a D-Day tour for the day through http://www.ddayhistorian.com/ thanks to your suggestions. Now onto the restaurants. I need to make 2 dinner reservations during his visit. Please let me know your favorite restaurants in Bayeux. I searched the forum but many of the posts are old. I was in Bayeux in 2004 and had a fantastic meal at Le Petit Bistro. If I recall, it was across from the cathedral and was very small and quaint. I believe it may have a new name or change in ownership. Can anyone let me know if this is the case.. and which place it is? The exact name or street? Any other suggestions?

I think it is still close to that name. And you do need reservations. It is across from the cathedral. I hope it isn't a change in ownership 'cause it was wife in the front and husband the chef.
Another one we enjoyed had "Normande" in the name.

La Fringale was my fav of the trip, liked it better than any meal we had in Paris.
There are a few that are great and would not really go by TA's advice. I will look at some other places and get back.

La Fringale was our favorite restaurant in our trips to Bayeux as well. We also dined at Le Petite Bistro, but were not as enamored with it as others were.

You're probably thinking of "Au P'tit Bistro" as it is across from the cathedral. They have a Facebook page

Yes, we really liked Le P'tit Resto (2 Rue de Bienvenu), but it was three years ago (now #27 TA for what it's worth).

Au P'tit Bistro (31 Ter Rue Larcher) seems to be the hot restaurant now (#1 TA).

Le Rapiere was quite nice last week

TA has a food stand as #1 place to eat in Key west, I swear the ratings over there are wacko. Garbo's is by far not the number 1 place to eat in Key West. La Fringale was closed for a while but see it is open again.
Le Conquerant is open when other places are closed. Wife is English and spent the last French election night there and was very informative and fun. Nice bar and pub food.

Table du Lion at Hotel Lion d'Or for fine dining in Bayeux.

We liked Le pommier and it seems highly rated. I don't trust the ratings at Tripadvisor.

Bookmarking as I will be in Bayeux for 4 nights next summer.

The top three restaurants in Bayeux, according to Gauit et Millau, are Le Lion d'Or, 71 rue Saint-Jean, Château de Sully,Rte de Port-en-Bessin and L'Angle Saint-Lauren, 2 rue des Bouchers.

Bumping this thread for more ideas. Looking for a quaint restaurant.. with good food where you can get a great bottle of wine. Price isn't a concern. Casual...but nice...not too casual. I know I'm talking in circles! Trip Advisor seems to be all over the place. I guess everyone has different ideas. Le Rapiere looked perfect...but it is closed in late December.

Au Petite Bistro (what it is now) was La Petite Bistro--across from the Cathedral. It was the best meal we had in France in 2 weeks that particular trip. Is that good enough?

Gretchen-- did you eat at L'Ptit Resto or Au Ptit Bistro? I ate at Le Petit Bistro in 2004 and it was fabulous. I believe it is now L'PTit Resto....based on looking at the pictures of the restaurant's location What street was the restaurant on where you ate? I want to make sure I book the right spot. Thanks.

Lyon D'Or was fabulous a few years ago, and very good more recently.

Many of the guests staying at Hotel Lion d'Or were visiting Bayeux and staying at the hotel specifically to eat at Table du Lion.Fabulous.

Careful! Au ptit bistro and le petit resto are two different restaurants and always have been. They are both technically "across" from the cathedral, but at different points. It confuses a lot of people. Au ptit bistro is number one on trip advisor and it's our favorite restaurant in town.
