bayeux or honfleur?
 

Hello,

We are planning a trip to Paris (7 days ) in June and would like to spend 3 days in one place in Normandy and take day trips from there. Most intersted in DD sights and seeing Honfeur. There will be 5 of us (including my in laws and 10 year old daughter). I like both bayeux and honfleur. ANy preferences out there?

I'm not sure what your question is--do you mean where to stay?

And if that's the question, what's your budget?

yes. We are trying to decide where to stay. We will probably want to visit both places, but I am interested in opinions on a good "base" for a three day trip.

Our budget is about $100- $150 US per night.

If you are more interested in the D-day sights then I would base yourselves in Bayeaux (which is a great town for not only the tapestry but for shopping,dining and seeing the surrounding countryside besides D-Day).Honfleur is a cute town but very touristy and a bit of a drive if you want to visit all the D-day stuff.Bayeaux is the better base in my opinion for visiting the great WW2 museum in Caen and all the battlefield sights. Personally, I would try and add one night at Mont St. Michel for a truly wonderful experience!

Depends upon your interests of course both places have their advantages.
However as Bayeux is a pretty large town I suspect the opportunity for a variety of accommodation is there.
Also the WW2 stuff is very interesting at Bayeux and the surrounding area.

Hornfleur is a lovely place it does get very crowded in summer.

Having been to both I would stay in Bayeux and if you have a car visit Hornfleur which would be easy to do.

I'd pick Bayeux over Honfleur as a place to stay too.

Thanks for the help. It appears Bayeux is the winer! Any suggestions on a B& B or hotel? We will have a car.

We were very pleased with Hotel Lion d'Or. They had a family room which worked well as we had our teenage son with us. They also had a parking lot (helped with rental car).

In Bayeaux, we stayed at B&B Les Ramparts. They had a two room, mini-suite that was resonable. Its at Charles de Gualle square.

We stayed at Chateau Fontaine Etoufor near Caen, enjoyed it alot.

Is this your first trip to France? Why not spend the whole week in Paris, for heaven's sake?

We are staying in Paris for a week. Plus three days in Normandy. I have been to paris once before, about 10 years ago. Never been to Normandy and am very interested in suggestions.

I would stay in Bayeux if only because of the famous Matilde's tapestry.

Ok this is not a hotel, but far better, not sure if they do 3 days in the summer, but you could always ask?

Take a gite, could work out cheaper. We stayed there 2 years ago and the location is perfect if you have a car.

Plenty of space in gorgeous countryside and minutes from the centre of Bayeux. Everything you need is close by the roads linking to everywhere are seconds away.
British owners too.
well worth a look IMHO.
