Bayern Ticket - is it best even for overnight trips?

Hello! I've read other posts about the Bayern Ticket and have a general understanding of how it works. I'd like to ask if this is the most economical option for the type of rail travel that my husband and I are planning.

For example, we plan to travel to Salzburg from Munich and stay in Salzburg 2 days/2 nights. If I understand the Bayern Pass correctly, it is only good for one day? So, if we start in Munich, we would purchase a 28 euro ticket to get to Salzburg, enjoy the city for 2 days/2nights, and then purchase another 28 euro Bayern ticket to get back to Munich or another destination within the Bayern network?

Please correct me if I'm misunderstanding how this works and/or if there is a better option. Many thanks!

Yes, 100% correct, if by "Bayern Pass", you mean the "Bayern Ticket" and by "Bayern network" the trains in the republic of Bavaria (but incl. Salzburg main station).
The ticket is subsidised by the Bavarian taxpayer for everyone to enjoy!

logos, is there any chance that bjbayhawk would save money by just buying two round trip 2nd class tickets from Munich to Salzburg?

Roundtrip Munich Hbf to Salzburg is 52€ per person on RE trains, 55€ on EC and 59€ on RJ.
