Bavaria Music and Dance

Any suggestions about opportunities to hear music or see dance in Bavaria this September? I've done searches on the internet but am not coming up with anything.

In Paris four years ago, we were delighted to come upon an orchestra playing for spare change in the Place des Vosges in the Marai district, and to experience a woman playing a violin on the metro for tips.

In England, we loved the Morris Dancers at Blists Hill in Iron Bridge Gorge.

Any tips about how we might increase our chances of encountering similar experiences in Bavaria?

There are street musicians in every city in Germany and they are wonderful. just go to the historic center in Munich, or any Bavarian city, and you will hear all the music you want.

A lot of small villages and towns in both Austria and Germany will advertise a "heimatabend" - this is usually an evening of local songs and dances, and usually held in a restaurant or small beer hall or in a town center. Each town may have one on a Saturday or a Friday, but most times in larger towns you can find one just about every nite of the week at varying restaurants. Also, some villages will have outdoor festivals on weekends( look for big tents!) that feature music and dance - often called a "festung" or even an Octoberfest. You need to check in the area that you will be staying with your innkeeper or in the local papers - if the town has a tourism center they will also know who has entertainment.

Thank you Athena and Emily. Sounds like the best plan is to play it by hear.
