Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland 2 weeks - Need Filler

Hello! Planning two weeks in early June in/out of Munich. Family of four with two sons 16 and 19. Renting a car for activities outside of the Munich area (Day 4 and beyond). Have it roughly sketched out, but looking for suggestions for some filler or extended stays:

MUNICH (hotel)
Day 1 - (arrive 8:30am direct 9 hour flight) Munich local
Day 2 - Fussen
Day 3 - Dachau

SALZBURG (hotel)
Day 4 - Salzburg local
Day 5 - Hallstatt / Obertraun
Day 6 - Berchtesgaden / Konigsee

INNSBRUCK (hotel) - stopover on way to Switzerland
Day 7 - Innsbruck local

LUCERNE (hotel)
Day 8 - Lucerne local
Day 9 - Interlaken / Lauterbrunnen

MURREN (hotel)
Days 10-11 - Murren / Wengen / Gimmelwald / Schiltorn / Junfraujoch

Days 12-14 ???
Day 15 - depart Munich 9:00am

Activity suggestions would be appreciated. We are not big hikers, so current itinerary already has that covered. Would like to fill in with more castles or museums.

Thanks in advance!

I think this itinerary is extremely ambitious. Rather than finding other "filler" places, I suggest that you might want to add time to the places you're already planning to visit.

As a start, lay things out by NIGHTS, not days, to make it very clear when you will "lose" time to transportation. For example, you can't have ALL of day 4 in Salzburg ... you need to get from Munich to Salzburg. (Etc.) Remember that getting from one city to another doesn't just mean transportation time ... it means packing and unpacking, checking in and out, getting oriented (and often, lost), etc.

As you've described it, you have one jet-lagged day for Munich itself, a city with more than enough to keep one busy for several days. You have part of a day in Salzburg, part of a day in Innsbruck, part of a day in Lucerne.... I can't say what you and your family will want, but I would find that way too little time in these glorious places.

If you haven't already booked your flights, consider flying into Munich and out of Zurich or Geneva so you don't have to backtrack. I would think you would all want to be in your departure city the night before a 9:00 am flight.

I trust you realize the Murren and Wengen are carless? Personally, I'd use public transportation for this trip -- so easy and convenient!

I agree with kja.
Also if you are driving don't forget you need a vignette for both Austria and Switzerland. The rental may have one for Switzerland but you will almost certainly need one for Austria. You can get an e-vignette for each country.
Check with the rental company about this.

You can also buy them as physical stickers near the border.

As above.
If you really want tro visit the places you mention instead of just driving throug with a few hrs stop, you may check smething like that:
DAY 1: Munich general visit
DAY 2: Munich, castles and museums
DAY 3: Morning at Dachau, then Herrenchiemsee castle and arrive at night at Salzburg
DAY 4: Hallstat, etc.
DAY 5: Salzburg, Hallein etc.
DAY 6:Berchtesgaden, etc.
DAY 7: Drive to Wattens Kristallwelten - Innsbruck, have lunch and visit Innsbruck
DAY 8: Drive to Nassereith - Fernpass - Fuessen and visit the castles
DAY 9: drive to Isny - Wangen - Tetttnang - Friedrichshafen (visit the museums) - Unteruhldingen (visit the prehistoric Lake dwellers village) - Meersburg Castle - Car ferry - Konstanz - Mainau Island (botanical gardens) - Stein am Rhein
DAY 10: drive to Rhine Falls - Zurzach - Brugg - Bern - Interlaken - Lauterbrubnnen parking
DAY 11/12: Jungfrau area
DAY 13: drive to Bruenig - Alpnachstad (cog wheel railway to Pilatus and back) - Lucerne

Ditto the above, already too much IMO

neckervd provides an interesting option. I would find it exhausting and deeply unsatisfying ... and I travel HARD. YMMV.

I never understand why people want o combine Salzburg with Interlaken.
There are tons of mountains and glaciers around Salzburg.
There are tons of baroque churches and castles in Switzerland.
And all kinds of lakes are omnipresent in both areas.

But in this forum, I just try to show people the best way (IMO) to do things they want to do but that I would never do.

I think it's great that we can all respond as we see fit! That said, it might be helpful to posters to know what you see as the drawbacks of their proposed itineraries; otherwise, it can seem as though you are endorsing their plans. JMO.

I agree with kja and hetismij2. While I don't always agree about destinations, I try to focus on the logistics of the proposed plan/itinerary. I know some people don't mind traveling at a very fast pace, but it's not always clear they know just how fast they'd be moving or how little time they'd have to explore a place. Some stops can feel like drive-bys. If a destination or two would be better left to another trip, I prefer to let the poster make those choices. And I do think the proposed itinerary is too much. If there are some 'extra' days ("Days 12-14 ???"), I'd add that time to the existing plan and slow things down. I wouldn't add anything else.

FYI, traveling in a group (even just 4 people, even if all family), everything takes longer. Getting going in the morning, eating meals, checking in/out of hotels, sightseeing... a few minutes here and there throughout the day, every day, all add up. Some people need a day or two to adjust to the time difference, etc. The group can only move as fast as the slowest person.

If you read my post 4, you see that there are tons of possible shortcuts, like
skip Herrenchiemsee castle and remain on the motorway up to Salzburg;
let the poor people of overtouristy Hallstatt in piece;
skip Berchtesgaden;
remain on the motorway up to Innsbruck and give Swarowsky a miss;
skip the Disneyland like Neuschwanstein kitsch castle and visit a real castle instead;
go direcly from Lake Constance to Interlaken.

Buit all that cannot shorten the distance between overcrowded Hallstatt and overcrowded Lauterbrunnen.
