battery rechargers, memory card readers London
I have a recharger (Energizer; white; rectangular; can hold 4 AA batteries). I also have 2 duracell batteries. I need to purchase two more rechargeable batteries. The question: does it have to be duracell too? I saw some energizer batteries and wonder if I can use them?
I also need to buy a memory card reader. I have a 64MB SanDisc memory card. Where can I purchase a memory card reader in London (I will be around London Kings Cross Station and/or the starting site of the Original London Tour)? My camera is really old but takes great photo (Olympus D510Zoom).....if you can recommend other memory card (greater capacity), please let me know! Also, let me know about the memory card reader too for a greater capacity memory card! |
Try Tottenham Court Road. There are loads of independent electronic shops that will stock what you are looking for - ask for a discount! massive capacity memory cards are now dirt cheap

Thanks! I have googled the location and will stop by there!
But I need to know: I have a recharger (Energizer; white; rectangular; can hold 4 AA batteries). I also have 2 duracell batteries. I need to purchase two more rechargeable batteries. The question: does it have to be duracell too? I saw some energizer batteries and wonder if I can use them? |
It's best to use same brand and capacity batteries in the same charger. There is a remote chance of batteries exploding if mixed. Or just buy four new AA rechargeables - they are pretty cheap these days, from around £1 each.
Other than electronic stores, you can also get them in camera shops. Olympus Camedia D-510 Zoom takes SmartMedia card to the maximum capacity of 128MB, which gives you around 120 shots at highest resolution. The format is now obsolete, but you should still be able to find them in larger stores, from around £10 to £20. |
Good luck finding SmartMedia cards. Your best bet, I would think, would be one of the shops on Tottenham Court Road, but even then, I wouldn't count on it. Indeed, if you are attached to the camera, I would consider stocking up on cards when you do find them, particularly if they are a decent price.
As for a card reader, a good multi-card reader should be able to read SmartMedia - I just bought one the other day, and it has a SmartMedia slot. |
I second Alec's advice about matching brands, but I'm not convinced they have to be the same capacity. This is because the charging circuitry for each pair is independent of the other one. I have a Lenmar NoMem charger, and the instructions say two pairs of any batteries <I>of the same chemistry</i> (<I>e.g.</i>, NiMH or AM) can be charged simultaneously with safety.
