Baths of Diocletian v Caracalla
 

And significant part of ancient Rome were the baths. Two of the most prominent were those of Diocletian and also Caracalla. If you have visited bath site ruins, and were to choose going to visit just one bath site ruins, which would you choose? <BR> <BR>jay

The Caracalla baths give you a much better idea on what a large Roman bath looked like. Though just about all the marble decoration is long gone (the Farnese family used it on their palace), the planform and walls are the original ones. <BR> <BR>The Diocletian baths, much larger, were located in the heart of the city centre and other structures were build over its ruins. One has to have lots of immagination to picture the old baths. Nowadays, most of what's left is occupied by the Santa Maria degli Angeli church and by the Museo Nazionale Romano.
