Bath to Tintern Abby

My husband and I will be in Bath in September and are hoping to be able to go to Tintern Abby while we are in the vicinity. We will be using buses and trains to get around. How long should we budget to see Tintern Abby? It looks like it will take some time to get there and back from Bath. Any suggestions on bus or train routes? Thank you.

Patsy

The journey should take about two and a half hours each way - by either bus or train via Bristol to Chepstow, then by bus to Tintern. Try the door-to-door journey planner on www.transportdirect.info for some rough ideas (but treat the information with some caution as it does sometimes give perverse roundabout routes).

Tintern is well worth going out of your way to see--not only for the Abbey itself--but the drive along the Wye River is memorable. Helps to be a Wordworth fan!

And while you are there be sure to also visit Chepstow Castle. Tintern/Chepstow is a terrific "two-fer"

Thank you all for the replies. I am a Wordsworth fan, my husband, well not so much. But he's willing to go for my sake.

So it sounds like we will need to take a train or bus to Bristol first. Then to chepstow and on to Tintern. Well, it will be a fun day, I'm sure. I think the getting there is half the fun.

Thanks again.
