The drive through the city will only be the last 15 miles or so. From Bath to your hotel is nearly 150 miles and could easily take 3.5-4 hours -- mostly on pretty boring motorways.

A train and can will take half of that and is not at all complicated. The train to Paddington takes 1.5 hours and then a cab to your hotel.

I've taken trains all over the UK and like them fine. I've taken a few cabs and 1 car service. If £££ isn't an issue, and timing is flexible, I'd take the car service, no question.
