Bath or Warwick???
 

Hi. We will be in London next weekend and are spending one day meeting a friend who lives about 3 hours from London. After much research and discussion, we have narrowed down our choices from about 10 places (based both on distance, conveience, and interest for both parties) to Bath or Warwick. Which do you prefer, keeping in mind it is February so the weather will likely not be terrific? (FYI - there are no kids, only adults going). Thanks for you suggestions.

I've been to both places and I'd say Bath. Warwick is dominated by the castle which is tastefully presented (by people who run Mdm Tussauds), but apart from a couple of churches there isn't much else to see. Bath provides sights in abudance, good shopping, much superior eating and easier to get to (frequent direct trains from Paddington; Warwick needs connection).

I, also, have been to both. Warwick Castle was great. We only were at the Castle. Did get into the village late so did not see much. Have been to Bath on a number of occassions. Usually pick out rental car up at Hertz at the RR Sta. A lot to see and it's well worth spending a full day. Enjoyed the Roman Baths, Sally Lunns both for lunch and dinner, a great Italian restaurant also but can't remember where it was we were staying at The Francis Hotel and it was within walking distance. I think it depends on what interests you more. If you like castles go to Warwick, if you don't go to Bath - I've been to both, both are interesting, but it's a personal decision in the long run. Incidentally I do not believe you need to make rail connections anyplace to go to Warwick. There are several trains a day from Marylebone Station to Warwick. Marylebone is a smaller station than Paddington so it's less hectic there if that is of interest! No matter where you go it will be dark early so your day will be 'shorter' for sightseeing anyway.

Bath, hands down, for sheer elegance.

There are lots of castles to see in Europe and the U.K., but only one Bath. Do take the free public walking tour if it's offered. <BR> <BR>However, again you must check your own interests.

Hi Stacy! Been to both. The castle in Warwick was great and I would do it again, King Maker, The Party etc. were exceptional and very real as were the dungeons. My vote though would be Bath as stated by many above. And if you do go to Sally Lunns be sure to have their BLT!

Hi Stacy <BR>If you're meeting a friend and want places to eat or sit and chat out of the cold then I'd recommend Bath. I live near Warwick and it's very pleasant but not many places away from the Castle. You can definitely get a through train to Warwick from London Marylebone via Banbury (it takes 1.5 hours and is much cheaper than any other route) Meg
