Bath on Sunday?

I am trying to fit the pieces of the itinerary puzzle of our upcoming Great Britain trip together. We are considering a day trip from London to Bath and Stonehenge. Is Sunday a good day for such a trip. I know that many places in London don't open until noon on Sunday and since we wouldn't arrive in Bath until noon or later, this might be a logical plan. Can you tell me of possible drawbacks? Thanks.

Sunday is fine for Bath. All of the tourist attractions are open as are many of the shops. The main problem will be that the attractions (Roman Baths, Pump room, etc.) will be much more crowded on a Sunday than on most weekdays because you will also be competing with local day-trippers.

If you are driving, and advantage is less traffic in Bath on a Sunday.

Michelle,

Although I am not knowledgeable about Bath, let me invite you to write to me if you would like to join in (ever) on an Ohio Fodorites' get-together. I think there are now about 6 or 7 known Columbus Fodorites, and several others in the Cincinnati, Indiana or Louisville area.

Maybe summer or early fall?

Best wishes,

Rex Bickers
Westerville, Ohio
Hmmm. I really read this title wrong! Sounded like someone was cutting back on water and taking a bath only weekly like in the old days.

re Bath: I haven't been there since 1985, but I'd recommend staying overnight a night or two instead of rushing to get a quick taste of it in a day trip.

Janice, we will either go on a Sunday or a Monday, depending on the transportation costs. If we avoid commuting traffic, the more crowded attractions on Sunday won't be that big a deterrent.

Rex, let me know when the Central Ohio get-together takes place. Sounds interesting.

Carol, wish we could stay longer. Maybe on our next trip...

Does anyone know a good place to eat in Bath between 4 and 6 on a Sunday or Monday? It looks to me as though many restaurants are closed then.

There are no possible drawbacks of taking a bath on Sunday.

Sunday? No.
The British usually take their bath on Saturday.

Michelle - if you are travelling by train, there may be a reduced timetable on Sunday - that is the only drawback I can think of. Check http://www.railtrack.co.uk for timetables.
