You could rent a car - from Heathrow would be well on the way to Stonehenge and then to Bath and set you own schedule - perhaps cheaper even than a guided tour on a stuffed bus?

I think I would be far too scared to drive on the "wrong" side of the road!

Well I guess get a really REALLY early start on the train to Bath! Actually I'd go to Stonehenge first as it is a solo single sight - Bath is the type of city you could spend days in - if you go there first you will feel rushed just to get over to Stonehenge - at Stonehenge everyone feels rushed! (It's main negative - too many other tourists there kind of ruins the solemnity of the place - but if you go really really early you may have the place more to yourself.

Then mosey over to Bath and stay until early evening.

I found this tour: http://www.premiumtours.co.uk/tours/...014.id288.html.
I have not taken this tour so can't vouch for it one way or the other. This one takes you inside the stones of Stonehenge which most visitors do not get to do. I am sure there are other similar tours offered by other companies as well.
We did arrange for an after hours access tour of Stonehenge which we really enjoyed but rented a car and drove there ourselves. My family and I loved the experience but this would make for a very late day for you.

Check if Megatrain is running from London to Salisbury. It is a fraction of the regular train price. We took it and it was simply a designated car of the normal train.

Are you ending your trip in London - if so considering cancelling the last two nights of your London hotel and stay in Bath one night and then go via Salisbury and Stonehenge and then end up near Heathrow Airport for your final night - you can take trains from Salisbury I believe to Fletham from which air buses go to many airport periphery hotels.

Just a thot.
