Bath & Stonehenge from London
 

We would like to take a short tour from London to Bath and Stonehenge. Which one would you recommend ?

I'd personally do both. We did a "quick trip" to Stonehenge (early morning), Bath (half day) and Oxford (rest of the day and evening) all in one day, driving ourselves and getting back to London very late. That was a little much, but I'm glad I got to see all three. Will you be driving or taking a bus tour -- I'm sure there are bus tours that cover both places.

Thanks, but I did not quite understand how London Walks could help because they seem to be walking tours of London. I was looking for a bus tour to Bath, Stonehenge, and may be to Oxford as long as it is in the same direction.

Igorek: London Walks have "Explorer Days". They are out-of-town excursions. Not in huge tour buses, but where you meet at a London train station and travel together to some interesting place, have a walking tour w/ the LW guide, have lunch, and then another guided walk.

There are also decent guided coach tours from London that cover Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath in one day. And then there are some that try to squeeze in Windsor/Stonehenge/Bath or Stonehenge/Bath/Oxford. If you do choose a commercial coach tour, I personally would <u>not</u> try the Windsor/Oxford ones. Bath, Windsor, and Oxford each require most of a day to just see the very basics. To cram in too much in too short a time means you really spend more time on the bus and eating than you do actually seeing things.

If you MUST take a tour - at least take one that has more &quot;tour time&quot; than &quot;coach time&quot;. Since the London Walks tours use trains, you get to your destination much faster than by road.

If you go by yourself you might find it advantageous to use a local guide when you arrive, like the Blue Badge members. Do not know about Stonehenge, but there are several in the Bath area.

I've used a local guide (Vic, from Vic's Taxi) who was very helpful and grew up in the area. He picked us up from the Salisbury train station, and we saw whatever we wanted, which can include Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, etc. www.vicstaxi.com. My friend K just went on a similar trip with him and had a great time :)

I did a Evan Evans bus tour from London to Stonehenge &amp; Bath a couple of years back. It was fine, an hour or so on Stonehenge and about 2-3h in Bath, with 1-2h driving in each direction. Looks like now they don't have that option, only Windsor+Stonehenge+Bath or Salisbury+Stonehenge+Bath.
