Bateaux Mouches or Bateaux Parisienne?
These seem to be the two main purveyors of the standard [non-meal] cruise on the Seine. Any preference among the knowledgeable here?

I lean to BP because I don't have to cross the river to catch it! Is that as good a reason as any??

There are three main operators: BP, Vedettes de Paris, and Bâteaux-Mouches. BM are huge - carrying 600-1,400 people, leaving from the Pont d'Alma, duration 85 minutes. BP has two cruises, one leaving from Pont d'Iena, one leaving from Pont de Montebello. They both carry 150-400 passengers. The Pont d'Iena trip is the Tour Eiffel Cruise, which takes 2.5 hours; the Pont Montebello one is the Notre Dame cruise, which takes 1 hour. BP boats run only in summertime. The Vedettes du Pont Neuf leave from le Square du Vert-Galant at Pont Neuf; they hold only 80 passengers on a 1-hour cruise. Personally, I prefer the smaller, quainter Vedettes de Paris, but they're all good for a view of Paris from the water.

I do Bateaux Mouche every time I go to Paris. I know it seems rather touristy but it is such a great cheap way to cruise along the Seine and see the sights. It's especially good for getting a handle on what's where. I've never done Bateau Parisienne, I think because the first time it wasn't leaving when I wanted to go.

I wouldn't go for either line's meal sailings. Just not worth the money.

I heard someone who went to see Moulin Rouge tell how fabulous they thought it was and that's another thing I never would have bothered with. Anyone here have any impressions about it?

For those reading this for meals...
I really like the Yachts de Paris' 'Don Juan' behind Notre Dame for dinner and it is a private yacht, only seats 16 people, and is 900ff a person for 8-midnight.

If just for sightseeing, I'm with St. Cirq, I prefer the smaller Vedettes de Paris from Pont Neuf!

There's an article about the Bateaux Parisiennes under Eating Out on this site:

http://www.cityvox.com/home_v3/0,411...ACCCIT,00.html

Here are 3. The Bateaux Mouches is the largest. Some people prefer the smaller boats but I found I can fall asleep on any of them. Reservations not needed. Just walk over, get a ticket and walk on. Not to worry - I'm not sending you an e-mail

Bateaux Mouches - leave from the Pont d'Alma on the right bank
Tel: 01-42-25-96-10 All year

Vendettes du Pont Neuf - leave from Square de Vert Galant at the western end of Ile de la Cite.
Tel: 01-46-33-98-38 All year

Bateaux Parisiens - leave from Quai Montebello Pier
also from Port de la Bourdonnais at the foot of the Eiffel Tower
Tel: 01-44-11-33-44 Runs April – Sept
