I'll be in venice in about a month.

Does anyone know how much it costs to take a train from Venice Mestre to Bassano del Grappa?

The tren-italia website wasn't cooperating when I was on it.

I just looked in my journal. Last July our two round trip tickets from Mestre to Bassano del Grappa cost a total of 16 euros (8 each).

Slight correction, but I'm not sure if it even makes a difference. Those tickets were going from Santa Lucia (the main station IN Venice), not from Mestre.

If you spend time in the Veneto, I like the town of Asolo as a base - - - check out the Hotel Cipriani.

I like Asolo too, but I'd never stay there using it as a base unless I had a car, which I don't believe travel52 is planning to do.

Yes, one would definitely need a car to make the most of the area.
