Bassano del Grappa and Vicenza day trip

I have been searching for info on Bassano del Grappa because this is a town that my husband would like to visit. I'm wondering if it is possible or worth it to to hire a driver/guide to take us to Bassano del Grappa and Vicenza for a day trip from Venice. Would it be more time efficient than traveling by train? We aren't interested in renting a car this time. Thanks for your advice.

We took the train to Bassano del Grappa from Venice and spent the day. It is a lovely town with an alpine feel.

Venice-Bassano del Grappa by train is easy; Venice-Vicenza by train is easy; Vicenza-Bassano del Grappa by train is complicated and time-consuming.

I would not think that Venice, by its very nature, would be the best place to hire a driver/guide. I did find this company in Vicenza with an English Web site:

I liked Bassano del Grappa; I used it as a place to stay to get to the Villa Barbaro at Asolo. Vicenza was more interesting to me for the Palladian architecture.

Thank you both for your response. Zerlina, I appreciate your info about the train between Vicenza-Bassano del Grappa. That helps to know that it isn't simple.

Hi Bfac - The way to go between Bassano and Vicenza is BUS, not train. It's a regular service.

There's certainly no need to hire a driver/guide - it's an easy day-trip by public transport.
