Basel Switzerland Cruise Port
 

I will be arriving in Basel by train. I then need to transfer to catch an Avalon river cruise. Does anyone know what time I should be able to board the cruise ship and how long of a transfer (by taxi?) it will be from the train station? If I arrive early is there anything to do around the cruise dock?

I have precisely the same questions, so I hope you get responses. I discussed some of this with Avalon and they advised a package of information would be delivered 2 weeks prior to departure, telling us what time we are to meet at a central location in Basel.

August 16. I'd appreciate a read on Basel after your trip. We're arriving on the 13th, and deciding now on whether to stay in Basel or Zurich before the cruise. Also trying to locate a good hotel in the $200 range...

We are staying in Interlaken for a few days before the cruise so I'm trying to decide which train to take to Basel and how much time to allow. If we can get on the cruise ship early we will go earlier to Basel.
