Hi Forum, I will be in Basel Next July with my adult son, just for a few hours before getting the train to Zurich. Does anyone know of a couple hour reasonably priced tour that one could purchase for just a quick trip thru the city with English speaking driver to point out important sites? We would also have two large suitcases. Thank you. Sue

You should be able to check your luggage at the Basel train station -- according to the Swiss rail web-site, the left luggage office is open Mon - Fri from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sat - Sun from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

and you have 24-hour access to luggage lockers of various sizes

Basel is, IMO, a great city for walking and there's a lot to see there.

Having a driver won't be of much help, some of the prettiest, most interesting areas aren't car-friendly.

If you don't want to walk, consider booking a private tour with one of the bicycle taxis instead of a car (the bike taxis hold two people [no luggage] with the driver up front). You'll go at a slower pace and, IMO, it's more fun and you can go into some places that cars can't.

As we live in Basel, we know several locals who do excellent small tours part-time and are more than happy to create a custom tour for you. What are your interests? Are you willing to walk or would you prefer to take public transport or a bike-taxi tour?

Strongly recommend you check those suitcases at the station. Lockers for large suitcases tend to fill up quickly, but fortunately there is also attended luggage and you can easily and safely store very large cases with them.

Thank you so much for these responses. I am a bit older with knee replacement, so the bike taxi sounds interesting, but can it work for two people? Son is normal weight, I am a tad over that. We would leave luggage at train station. Will get back on this.However, we will be pressed for time so perhaps a car tour makes more sense for us, which I think it does. Sue

you could see quite a bit in two hours -- a little of St Alban tal (very pretty), the Munsterplatz area, Barfusserplatz, Marktplatz etc. At the end of the tour, the velo taxi driver could drop you off at Marktplaz where you could pick up a tram that would take you straight back to the train station in just over 5 minutes. I think you would both fit fine in the velo taxi.

Weisser Tee, can you tell me what a velo taxi driver is? Is it simply a taxi? Do the trams run frequently from the Marktplaz back to the train station? Do you have any idea of the cost of a little tour like this? Could we be picked up at the train station and could I arrange for this at the train station? Thank you. Sue
