Base and family accom. in Umbria
My Family (2 adults and 2 children aged 7 and 5) are travelling to Italy for 6 weeks in June next year. We plan to spend to one week in Umbria - can anyone reccommend where is the best base (I was thinking between Todi and Assisi) and any accommodation that is comfortable (rural farmhouse/villa, two bedrooms, pool). Thanks for your assistance.

We (family of three) enjoyed our one week stay at
http://www.ilrifugiodeivescovi.it/eng/index.htm I chose this location for its convenience to the many Umbrian highlights, just off the Via Flaminia leading to Montefalco and Bevagna and also near the E45, which is a toll-free highway, to quickly reach the Assisi area, Spello and Gubbio. Todi was nearby. We headed west to Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio and east to Spoleto and on (through the tunnel) to Norcia and the Piano Grande. These were all comfortable day-trips and the family-owned agriturismo was perfect for us. No pool though. |
We enjoyed a week at a converted farmhouse in Umbria, just outside of Umbertide. We loved it, and made lots of day trips. No pool though.

Just stayed for a week in late May at the agriturismo mentioned in Eloise's post: Le Case Gialle (she listed the site for you). If you look on a map of Umbria it is near Bevagna/Foligno/
Gualdo Catteneo/Montefalco. We were a group of 5 adults. We rented an apt for two and one that slept the other 3 of us. Great place. It is an organic olive oil farm. Lots of walking/hiking in the area, hilltowns to visit, a few farm animals your kids may be intrigued with, and near enough to other attractions. I think it was about 30 minutes to Assisi... There is a pool, so keep that in mind re: your children. The owners are very nice and have two children, so it is a kid friendly place. The webiste has a lot of information; if you want to know more about it, I would be happy to answer questions. |
