Bars showing American College Football Bowl games?
Ok, a long shot, but I must ask on behalf of my husband whose beloved LSU will be in the Sugar Bowl while we are vacationing in London. Do you know of any places that might be showing these Bowl games? I know we have time zones & the lack of interest in American College Football against us! Perhaps there are some bars that cater to expats? Much Thanks!

Wished I could help dddiane, good luck and GO LSU!!

Hi DDDiane:
I posted to a similar request for someone traveling to Australia, so guess I should post her as well. But I'm sure if you dig into the 'sports bar' options you'll find something. This past October I was in New Zealand & being a big time Red Sox fan I'd grown accustomed to having my Octobers free so for the last few years I've taken advantage some off-season fares with a good October vacation. So this year I was in Wellington NZ for Yankees-Red Sox game 7 & found the 'Chicago Sports Bar' (www.chicago.co.nz) in Wellington harbour - and they had a DirectTV satellite feed so there I sat with my camera ready to get a picture of the Red Sox finally knocking off the Yankees from Wellington - no better way to finish off a great trip to NZ, then came the bottom of the 8th, I put my camera away, finished my beer & waited for the inevitable. So you should be able to find something similar in London. Later, Z |
Hard Rock Cafe, maybe? Hooters? (has that bit of American shame made it across the pond?)
|
You might want to check LSU's website for alumni groups. I know we have an alumni group in London who gets together to watch the big games. My guess is that they certainly know where to go! Good luck.

The Hard Rock shows music videos only.

dddiane,
It's not a bad question. I was in London last year for the SuperBowl. There is a big Sports bar a block away from the Picadilly Circus tube stop. It is called the Sports Cafe and the address is 80 Haymarket. It is a short distance (and across the street) from an American Express Office. They are open until 3am, but they stayed open later for the SuperBowl (I think it ended around 4am London time). Not sure if they'd do that for a Bowl game, but you can ask them. There were people there from all over the world. Good luck! Karen |
Jackpot! You guys are great!
I looked for an LSU alumni group in London, but unfortunately there aren't any. Fantastic idea, though -- looks like they have many, many international chapters, just not London. I may use that tidbit in the future, though -- thanks lilygirl. I found the website for Sports Cafe, and I think its going to work out! They are only currently listing the December games they will be showing, but they are listing a lot of College Bowl games. So, chances are, the Sugar Bowl will be shown there in January. Thanks Kaudrey! Go Tigers! |
Will that be the LSU-USC game?? Just asking.
|
LSU-Oklahoma
|
I thought the Sugar Bowl was supposed to be between the No 1 and No 2 ranked teams!
|
The BCS sucks. Go Wolverines!
|
" I thought the Sugar Bowl was supposed to be between the No 1 and No 2 ranked teams!"
Good one. I just got my Rose Bowl tickets today to see the best bowl game, USC vs. Michigan. I do hope LSU beats Oklahoma, a team that didn't even win its conference. Too bad the winners of those two games couldn't meet. ((H)) |
dddiane --
Can understand your desire to catch this game live. Myself, I'll be in Pasadena to watch the Trojans take it all. And yes, the BCS does suck. Fight on, USC! |
Hmmmm.can you imagine the "scene" in the Sports Cafe when the LSU people stage a pout-riot because the establishment is refusing to show "their" game?
|
As far as I know, the only TV network in the UK which carries US college games is the North American Sports Network (NASN) which is subscription only. You'd need to find a pub/bar which has this - but remember it almost certainly won't be on if it conflicts with a Premiership football match on Sky Sports. I think your best bet would be to see if there is an LSU alumni organisation.
|
There won't be a conflict between Bowl games. The Rose Bowl (REAL championship game!) is on Jan 1 and the Sugar Bowl (BCS nonsense) is on Jan 4. Unfortunately, Premiership football will trump either of them.
|
OH MY!
I was just asking a simple question! :) |
"I was just asking a simple question!"
Yes dddiane, it was a simple question. But if you've been here long enough, there is never a simple answer. Good luck to LSU and a shared national championship (hopefully) with USC. Anything that makes BCS officials unhappy makes me happy. ((H)) |
Worst case if you can find it on TV, sign onto the LSU site (lsusports.net) and listen to the live broadcast.
Sure wish we were playing USC so we could beat them and put to rest all the talk about who the "real" national champion is!! GEAUX TIGERS!! |
