barges in europe

Has anyone traveled by barge in Europe? How was it?
Nina, we are planning to do so in October using Locaboat Plaisance (www.locaboat.com). If you do a search here you should find something. When I was beginning to plan our trip, I posted and received an email response from Francesca. Perhaps she will be able to help. For a really detailed report, go to www.bparis.com, check their Discussion, then "Sightseeing, Hotels..., then Barge Trip in France.

We are so looking forward to our trip.

Hope this helps.

I just re-read and wanted to add, that this is a self-drive barge trip.

We did, however, take a real barge trip via the MS Arlene down the Rhone River. That was a wonderful experience!

Nina - my husband and I are busy planning such a do-it-yourself-houseboat-trip. There are so many to choose from - I second Mary's suggestion: Locaboat Plaisance has very helpful staff - I dealed with Mandy and Sandrine. I have received lovely English brochures from five other companies as well - they all offer variations of more or less the same routes, from week-ends to mini-weeks, to much longer trips. If you are interested, contact me by e-mail.
Regards
