Bargain Hotel in Venice?

Can anyone suggest a good bargain hotel in Venice... say near 50 Euro? I'd like to be on the Eastern side of the Riallto (say in San Marco... but doesn't have to be right near St. Marco Square).

Thank you.

Amy, I quickly googled "Hostels Venice" and came up with several sites, including www.hostels.com.

One mentioned was the B&B Rota, located in San Polo and in a 500 year old building, apparently 2 mins. from Rialto Bridge, has a private twin bed with ensuite available for USD 57 per night.

A start...

One place I'm looking into is Foresteria Valdese:

It has both dorms and private rooms, and good reviews:

Thanks Linda. I've been researching hostels for about a week. I do have the one you suggested on my list :-)

I was hoping that maybe someone had gone and stayed someplace unknown and really fantastic!

I'm traveling alone... and am finding that many hostels do not offer single rooms... rather I have to pay for both beds.

So, I'm searching!... as I would like to keep my costs down while holding out for my own room ;-)

While I won`t call it a fantastic place, it was clean and quiet, off the canal about a block, and it was inexpensive. it`s called the Hotel Villa Rosa. We did have to take the vaporetto down to San Marcos though. It`s not far from the train station. We found it by asking at the train station.

I'm going to post as I find things too... hopefully to help others searching as well. I read further into the Fodors website, cross referenced with Trip Advisor and found Minerva E Nettuno. If you book in advance through their website (http://www.minervaenettuno.it/booking.php)you get 25% off. For me, single, this made Bed and Breakfast rate $40 a night and full board $50 a night. That's for a private room with it's own bathroom. It is up in the North area (right by the casino). 20 min walk to the Rialto... and about another 10 minutes to St. Marks Square.

Here's another in San Marco, on the canal, Albergo San Samuele. 7 minutes to the Riallo, 2 minutes to St. Mark's Square. Single room 26 euro to 46 euro. Breakfast, 4.5 euro. http://www.albergosansamuele.it/ing/html/tariffe.htm
