Bargain Cities in Europe
Want to go on a trip in March or April to a european city but don't want to spend a great deal of money, especially with our US dollar being so weak to the Euro. I've already been to Prague, Rome, Florence, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and London. Can anyone sugggest a city that would be easy to get to, would have lots of culture and shopping opportunities and good public transportation that won't break the bank?

Lisbon!

A lot of Eastern European / Baltic cities should suit your needs - Tallinn, Riga, Budapest would be 3 that I'll be returning to. I'm sure a lot of people would promote Croatia also, but as I haven't been yet, I can't vouch for it.

Paris--it's a city you can spend a lot in, or spend a little in. And it certainly has culture and shopping and great public transportation.

Try a Polish City...Wroclaw or Lodz..
University of Lodz Hotel..A standard one person room at 100 zlotych ($25) a day. Fax 48 42 6355460. Bus and Tram evrywhere..Wroclaw..more money at Olympia Hotel..A site of 1936 Olympic Games, mostly intact. Again good tram and bus service. Enjoy and explore both, Rail and Bus available. |
If you'ld appreciate a bit of sun too in march, then I would go to Lisbon or Barcelona.

Krakow, in Poland. I was amazed at how inexpensive everything was. A delightful city to walk around in -- similar in many ways to Prague, but without the crowds. There are a number of worthwhile day trips to smaller towns and cities nearby.
