Barcelona unusual things to do
 

I am leaving for Barcelona & Prague 11/15/06(my daughter is in school in Prague). We have our days filled by her in Prague. Barcelona will be cold, besides the normal tour book places, What food and sites were your favorite memories. Thanks for all the help this past June with my daughters to Paris and Cinque Terra. What a great trip!

The Catalonian National Museum has Romanesque frescoes that should not be missed.

Tour the vast roman ruins underneath the city -- really amazing.

The ruins under the city sounds Amazing!! where is the entrance-- How do I find info?

Don't count on it being too cold. I had a pleasant hour people watching from a bench at the beach in January.

My husband and I were in Barcelona last month. We had a wonderful dinner at Els Quatre Gats.

Presuming you are already planning to tour the music palace, I would head straight for the Catalonian National Museum if you are at all interested in the culture of where you are visiting and great art.

If you understand Spanish, then take a tour of one of the apartments at Casa Mila (Gaudi apt. building). I believe the guided tours are on Thursday evenings, but check to be sure. Seeing an apt. furnished in the period, plus going up to the roof are a wonderful experience.
Spend time walking around the Passeig de Gracia area, for the architecture is beautiful. Go into the lobby of open buildings, go down the side streets.
On Sunday at noon, be at the front of the Cathedral. Locals will set up a band and form circles to do a traditional dance that was banned by Franco during his dictatorship. Do put in a couple of eruos into the basket passed around to pay the band.

Re ruins: I forget the exact name of the place. The museum of the history of Barcelona has four locations: You wan the one one near the back of the cathedral. It has a small display and then you go downstairs to a many-square-block underground tour of the original roman city.

It just goes on and on, and is really cool. They have identified the sites of the old laundry and the wine-makers, many other spots, and show how the homes were laid out.

(I think this is a new-ish arrangement of the 4 museums -- or else my guidebook didn't really describe it properly.)
