Barcelona trip with a side of non city??

Hi!

I will be staying (solo) in Barcelona for 7 days end of Oct. Is there a day trip or overnight you would suggest for a NON City type of feel to my trip? I won't be renting a car. I love Architecture, nature, art...

Thanks so much for your help as always!!

We did not make it out of the city but I understand Montserrat and Picasso Museum make good day trips -- worth a look. I'm sure others will have comments.

Montserrat. You can do that in a day.

What's the "Picasso Museum"? There is one smack dab in Barri Gotic in Barcelona. Do you mean the Dali museum in Figueres?

Montserrat is a great and very easy day trip on public transportation from Barcelona.

Montserrat - if you want a seat on the train coming back then take the funicular, not the cable car. Go on a clear day.

You could also visit the Pedralbas Monastery on the outskirts of Barcelona. It's in a residential area and very lovely for a short visit.

I also would recommend Montserrat because you get great mountain views and really feel in a different place.

Don't understand the reference to the Picasso museum outside Barcelona. Of course there are many Picasso museums in the world, but can't see why one would go there when there is one in the city itself. I am not a Dali fan but maybe the reference was to that museum (I wouldn't go to Figueres for that, it's not a real rural experience, anyway). You could go to Sitges for the day if you like beaches. But I'd say Montserrat is the best.

The Costa Brava is beautiful to see. There are coach excursions available from Barcelona (see Viator, e.g.). Otherwise, you would need to rent a car or hire a driver to get around.

Yes I had confabulated Dali and Picasso museum -- had just been reading about a different Picasso Museum opening somewhere. It's the Dali museum that some consider an interesting day trip from Barcelona. As I've said, I've not been.

And ironically the day we went to see the Picasso Museum in Barcelona gothic quarter it was closed.

We would have loved to go to Cuenca but train times did not work with our cruise. Going to Girona which is supposed to be very nice.

Cadeques. Dalî house is nearby.

Still a city but a train ride to Girona would be a great one day visit.

Another vote for Montserrat! You can stay overnight and watch the sun come up on the mountain. It's incredible.

Of course, since you like art make some time for Figueres and see the Dali Museum. Get there early before the tour buses.
