My daughter and her friends are traveling from Barcelona to Verona, Italy on March 27th (unfortunately Easter Sunday holiday) for a school program that begins the 28th. We are looking for the best way to get them there. They each have a checked bag due to the overall length of their trip.
Fly Barcelona to Verona via Rome with the worry of changing planes and having bags lost?
Fly Barcelona to Milan, then how to best get to Verona?
Fly Barcelona to Venice, then how to best get to Verona?
What is the best way to get to and from the airport in Barcelona, and also once in Italy? Taxi? Uber?
Thanks so much, we want them to have a good plan on a reliable airline.

Have you checked with a travel agent?

There does not appear to be any direct flights from Barcelona to Verona on the 27th, but Alitalia has a one-stop flight (Rome) departing Barcelona at 11:45 that morning, arriving in Verona at 3:25 pm for €208, one-way.

Lufthansa shows a flight departing at noon for €264, one-way, arriving at 3:55 pm. There is also a Lufthansa flight departing at 6:45 pm, taking 4 hours.

You daughter can take the airport bus or a taxi in Barcelona. I would recommend a taxi in Verona.

BCN to Milano or Venice (I'd do Milano) Malpensa on Vueling. Malpensa Express into the city or a cab and take the train from there to Verona

If they can fly on the 25th there is a nonstop Barcelona to Verona on Vueling.

BCN to Milano on Vueling is a good option, if she wants to be up that early for the morning flight. She'll have to be at the airport before 06:00, making for a long day of travel. But I guess she can sleep once she reaches Verona.

Lost luggage in a holiday period is a real concern. Better to take a non-stop to either Milan or Venice or Bologna, and then a train to Verona than to do a connecting flight if luggage is being checked.

A couple of years ago, we took a flight to Milan LIN airport, short taxi to the Milan Centrale train station, then a train to Verona. Alitalia has a non-stop that leaves BCN at 1PM & arrives at LIN at 2:30pm. Then departure from Milan Centrale are at 15:05, 16:05, 16:35, 17:05, 17:35 for the 1 hr 23 min trip to Verona. We purchased tickets for the Verona train at the Milan train station when we arrived there. This was 5 days before Easter Sunday when it seemed that everyone in Milan was heading south to witness the new Pope's address.

neckervd - it might be a good idea for you to tell NWSUNGIRL why flying to Linate is complicated!!! We did it & from SFO to FRA to LIN & I thought it was quite easy. After 16 hrs or so in transit, we just wandered out of LIN, hopped into a taxi, short ride to Milan Central, purchased 2 tickets, and got on the train to Verona. You have them flying on one more leg than I suggested. Personally, I would rather take a taxi than take another flight. The train to Verona starts in Milan and stops in Brescia and then Verona - so it is the same exact train that I recommended. Unless the Brescia train station is within walking distance of the airport - it seems like you recommended a needless flight (I could be mis-reading your suggested itinerary).

I really don't know what you are talking about.
For me, a direct BCN - BGY flight is just 1 flight, not 2!

OK - I thought the Autostradale was some kind of flight. If it is just a shuttle from Bergamo airport to the Brescia station - then it's the same thing as a taxi to Milan Central from Linate. Same amount of "complications" in both scenarios, IMO.

We spend 2 months in Europe every year (80% France 15% Italy) and I did not recognize Autostradale. I'm guessing that MWSUNGIRL didn't either. Perhaps next time describe what it is, so someone like me doesn't get confused. Flight, train, taxi, renfre, and trenitalia are easily understood - but Autostradale isn't - at least for me.

Of course. The only difference is that Brescia railway station is much smaller (less queues, shorter ways, easier to find the right train) and much closer to Verona than Milano Centrale.
And the ryanair flight BCN - BGY is really cheap.

I still like the one-stop flight leaving late Easter Sunday morning. It's much simpler.

There are 4 airlines flying non-stops from Barcelona to Bologna (including budget airlines) From Bologna airport it is a 20 minute taxi ride or a 30 minute shuttle to the Bologna train station. From Bologna to Verona is 90 minutes or so on the train.
