spate was the wrong word - but there have been enough that I have heard about that it is always possible if not common - keep informed as they are announced in advance usually.

If taking the TGV be sure to try to get a seat on the top deck if a Duplex - double-decker) train for much much much better views than the sunken lower level where you see windblocks and rail beds and little else.

I would definitely take the train...I think that would be an interesting journey, especially now that it travels at the speed of light. Maybe a slight exaggeration.
