Barcelona to Interlaken
Trying to price/schedule a train ride from Barcelona Spain to Interlaken Switzerland. I can't seem to find a way to do it.
Can anyone help? |
Are you wanting to do this overnight or during the day?
Try using the Swiss Fed site: www.sbb.ch and click on the EN version at the top
Overnight would be great! How long of a trip is it that way?
Traveling overnight by train would take over 21 hours and a minimum of four connections (Cerbere, Avignon Centre, Mulhouse Ville, and Basel). The Avignon Centre-Mulhouse Ville leg would be on a night train having sleeping accommodations.
Both your fastest and cheapest route would be to fly easyJet from Barcelona to Geneva and take the train from the airport to Interlaken Ost. Leave Barcelona at 08:30 and arrive in Geneva at 10:10. Booked well in advance, the fare will be around $50 US. Leave the airport at 11:01 and make one connection in Bern, arriving at Interlaken Ost at 13:57. Or leave at 11:36, connect in Bern and Spiez, and arrive at 14:28. Get train fares on the Swiss Rail site. |
Tim, Thank you so much!!
Kory:
You could also fly Easyjet from Barcelona to Basel and take the train from Basel to Interlaken: It is shorter than from Geneva (2 hours instead of 3), cheaper, and there are direct trains to Interlaken Ost, so no connections. Hope this helps Phil. |
There used to be an overnight train Barcelona/Geneva/ Zurich with no changes. Is it not running anymore?
ryanair used to fly to basel, too.
The night train still is running.
When you use sbb.ch it will show up as EN273 leaving Barcelona at around 7pm. So you need just one change at Bern to go overnight from Barcelona to Interlaken. |
Funny. EN 273 doesn't appear on the usually reliable bahn.de. FYI, sbb.ch shows that train running Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday.
try www.renfe.es.. the international section of the website.
oops. it's .com
On their website I ma geting the trains to Zurich leave from Girona.. not Barcelona. Confused.
Like Tim S says no mention of that overnight hotel train that used to run from Barcelona to Geneva and beyond - check these great European rail sites for possible info on it - www.budgeteuropetravel.com; www.ricksteves.com and www.seat61.com or try Spanish Railways www.renfe.es or www.sbb.ch - Swiss Railways.
I meant to say no mention on www.bahn.de - the usually infallible German Railways web schedules that normally has all European trains - perhaps that train does not run nightly or is seasonal?
That train runs periodically during the winter months and as I recall more frequently during the tourist season.

Check the official Elipsos (operator and name of the overnight trains between Barcelona and Zurich (get off at Bern for Interlaken) to see when they are running. |
Thanks PalenQ. That same Pau Casals train only came up as leaving from Girona when I checked. Good to know it is still running form Barcelona. If you can get the MINI fare it is quite reasonable.
