Barcelona to Granada Flights/Other Options
 

Hello everyone. I am planning a trip next March to Spain - first time. 2 couples. We will fly into Barcelona and plan to go from Barcelona to Granada. Can anyone suggest how best to get from Barcelona to Granada? I thought flying would be easiest, though driving or train travel might be an option. Buses are definitely out.

By the way, my friends got me thinking about this trip so far ahead of time to distract me after my father died recently. And I must tell you, thinking about future travel is a great way to get someone to look forward after a sad event.

My wife and I took the overnight train from Barcelona to Granada in October of last year. Flying would have probably been quicker and easier but we wanted the different experience and we really enjoyed it. The train left Barcelona at 8:30 or 9:30 PM (I can't remember now) and arrived in Granada at 9 AM. We had a little berth to ourselves with bunk beds where the bottom one folded out into two chairs with a small table. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine as we looked out the window watching the waves break on the beach for a part of the trip. We would do an overnight train again if it could work out as nice as this one did.

We flew this route in reverse two years ago. Booked way ahead on Iberia. As recommended above, I would check both Iberia and Vueling; the flight is less than 1.5 hours N/S but be sure you can live with the checked luggage restrictions.

We are flying Spanair in November. I started checking fares in May, and Spanair was running around 60 euros. A couple weeks ago, I decided it was time to book and the fare was 3 euros! That's right--3 Euros. Mind you, by the time they added taxes and service charges it came up to 30 euros. But still, the message here is to not book too soon, but soon enough, if that makes any sense.
