Barcelona to Gironda by train or car
 

We will be in Barcelona for 5 days and want to spend one of them in Gironda. Do you think a train there is a good idea. Where would I get the train and do I need to make a reservation? Do you pay for a round trip?

Would anyone suggest that a car is needed instead of the train?
How long would we need to spend in Gironda to see the sights there?

Do you mean Girona?

You do not need to make a reservation for Girona. There are multiple trains per day, probably about one per hour. You can get the train from Sants or Passeig de Gràcia. It should be under 20 euros for a return trip. This is DEFINITELY the way to do. Do not bother with renting a car.

old part of town .

we are contemplating doing a guided day tour from Barcelona to Girona, rather than going on our own. The one that seems to readily available is Julia Tours. We would book it at their office when we are there. Has anyone done this tour?

Ita- When will you be there? Maybe we could book the tour together? What is the web site for Julia tours?

we will be there from October 14-24. I think there is no problem taking the tour with Julia. It runs every day except Monday. They said we could book while we are there. www.juliatravel.com. I am more interested in other smaller tours that need 5 participants-Top Day Tours and Catalania Tours-google them. The Julia tour also includes Dali. The others include Costa Brava

Girona is not that big and with a little research is easily done on your own to do what you want unless you also intend to go to the Dali museum in Figueres. The train as recommended by oopsy is the way to go. Fast and easy. No reservations and no return ticket unless you want to. Girona is really worth a visit. Very pretty and lots of interesting shops in the old town. Commuters do the daily trip on train from Girona to Barcelona and back so the station is very efficient.

For me Girona is beautiful and you can easily spend one night there and enjoy every minute.
Take a train there are many daily trains really inexpensive and nice trains too, we stayed lately in hotel Peninsular, great location, good rate, good breakfast. good luck.
You can walk from the train station to this hotel, four of five blocks.
