Barcelona Spain - Seeking Suggestions r.e. Villa Rental & Activities W Kids

Hi,
I am looking into organizing a trip for our family and two others. Our plan is to rent a large villa with pool and cook in or around Barcelona, and use it as a base for exploring the area. Kids are 6 - 12 years old. Questions:

1. Any major flaws with this as an overall plan?

2. In what nearby cities / towns should we rent the house?

3. What are best activities that kids will really enjoy?

4. Any other suggestions?

How many people?

What's the real purpose of the trip - to see Barcelona or to piddle about outside of it? If you want to see Barcelona, stay IN Barcelona and check out flats in the same building for the various families on www.apartur.com.

Do you have a budget in mind? If you are looking for a large villa with a pool, be prepared to pay for it. Good quality villas in Catalunya run from a low of €2000/wk to more than €25,000/wk, depending on the season, number of bedrooms, location and amenities. Most villas rent from Saturday to Saturday. Some villas require a minimum of 2-week stay during high season.

The last villa we rented for a client was near the medieval village of Palafrugell and it was €9800 for one week in late September.

Timing is also important. Checking availabily, you'll find that many of the larger villas are already booked from June through August.

We're paying $1500/wk in June but not in the Barcelona area.
