Barcelona or Seville/Lisbon?
We have four days in Spain in late July. Flying in to either Seville or Barcelona from Paris. We have traveled the Mediterranean but not in Spain. If you could only choose one city - Barcelona or Seville/Lisbon - which one should we do? I am concerned that 4 days is alot of time in Barcelona. (Will be traveling with husband and 2 teenage sons) We will have a rental car. Your preference? Thanks!

Four days will hardly scratch the surface of Barcelona if you really want to explore the city.
Sevilla is also an excellent choice, but not in late July when the lows will be hovering around 40C, at night. Lisbon is always an interesting destination and is now staring to "come of age". I think the teenagers would enjoy either Barcelona or Lisbon a little more in July versus Sevilla. If you decide to go with Barcelona, then take a look at Maibel's Guide to Barcelona. If it's Sevilla, then the best on-line guide is "Explore Seville". |
IM experience, the teenagers will enjoy Barcelona more at ANY time of the year than Seville!

Another vote for Barcelona (closer to Paris)

Barcelona wins - thanks for the advice.

July 25 is Santiago! It's too hot in Sevilla (and possibly Barcelona). If I were going to Spain in late July my target would be the north coast. There are lots of flights into Bilbao, fewer to Santiago. Santander has its Santiago festival around 20 Jul and it's a great beach resort. If you go to Santiago for the 25th, you'll see the Basilica burned down in an impressive fireworks display.
No to Barcelona or Sevilla/Lisbon. Go to the real (Christian) Spain! |
My husband & I were in Spain more than 15 years ago. When we stayed in Barcelona we took a train to a small town called Sitges. It is one of those towns you dream of going back to-on the beach-white coblestoned streets. If you choose to go to Barcelona I'd try that town for a day trip=Chris

Another vote to Barcelona. There is a lot to see there.
