What are your favorite large and small museums? These look interesting:

Picasso and Joan Miró are my favorites in Barcelona.

Miró is up on Montjuic and has an outdoor sxulpture garden too.

Absolutely loved the Miro foundation - both the artworks themselves and the building housing them. You get a great insight into what was influencing him during each of his recognised styles and periods.

For me, the best art in Barcelona is in the streets not in buildings. The modernisme of Gaudi and Puig is more interesting and substantive than the collections in Barcelona.

I found the maritime museum in the medieval shipyards surprisingly interesting.

The Museum of the History of the City of Barcelona includes a fascinating walk through the archeological remains of the Roman city under the streets of the modern city.

I really liked the National Museum of Catalonian Art. I enjoyed the history museum but I like those kind of things a lot. Really liked the Miro museuc, and the maritime museum.

Didn't like the Picasso museum much at all. First, I'm not a big Picasso fan and have seen his stuff a bazillion times in other, better museums. There are also other Picasso museums, several of them, in other cities. The one in Barcelona isn't very interesting IMO and doesn't have many of his best works, if I recall. If you are a diehard Picasso fan, I guess it would be a must-see. Otherwise, I'd spend my time doing something you can't do somewhere else (which is seeing Picasso paintings).

I agree with IMD.

Our late summer plans have us in Barcelona (we were there about 12 years ago) for a couple of days.

I think we may be inside buildings very little this time around.

Yeah, because modern art is known for its 50% accuracy.

This is not a museum, but it's wonderful anyway--the Palau de Música Catalunya. (Probably spelled it wrong.

I'm not crazy about Picasso, either. I do like the wonderful Gaudi buildings.

Any thoughts about the Fredi Mares Museum?

It is a unique collection of the founder, sculptor Frederic Marès. Not for every one, but interesting. I think it's worth a visit if you have the time, but it's not on everyone's "to do" list, which is actually a good thing.

Agree with Nikki - the city museum over the dug out Roman city is fab.

I loved the Perfume Museum--thousands of perfume bottles. A locked room in beauty shop on L Rambla.
