Barcelona - MH Apartments Opera Rambla
Hello,
We are three people (mom, dad, and an 8-year old) coming from the US to visit Barcelona for 2 days in mid April. Does anyone have any experience with MH Apartments Opera Rambla, C/Ferran 7, Barcelona, 8002 ? Is it located in a safe area? Is it within walking distance to city’s attractions? Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Vince. |
Are you sure they'll allow you to rent for just two nights? We recently reserved an apartment in Barcelona for three nights in June. I looked at several different websites and most seem to have a three night minimum.
In case it's of any help to you, I got some wonderful advice on this thread: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35180675 |
The Ramblas are about as much centre it gets in Barcelona and a good place from where you can get to all attractions since you also got a subway station close by. It’s a very busy and touristy pedestrian zone between two streets and you shouldn’t be surprised about some noise, including late in the evening. But since the apartments are in a side street without car traffic, it might be okay in the morning.
During the day and early evening, you will be together with hundreds of people, so there’s certainly no danger but pickpockets. Sometime after midnight there’s a bunch of prostitutes hanging around at the parts of the Ramblas closer to the sea (at least they were two years ago) which were rather aggressively going for their trade, but then I walked there as a single man and it certainly was more annoying than dangerous. As a recommendation, if you’re looking for a quiet place, the Ramblas might not be the best bet. If you don’t mind bars and night-life in region and the resulting consequences, you could do worse. I actually like that part of Barcelona since you can walk in a few minutes to the sea. |
It is in the Berri Gothic, just off Ramblas, about mid-way down Ramblas. It's a busy area and easily within walking distance of most of what you want to see.
I can't comment about the apartments, but MH is a management service that handles several apartments in the city. The Apartments Opera Rambla are also available through other agencies. |
Thank you for your replies, folks. Very helpful information.
Hans, you mentioned that the Ramblas may be too noisy in late evenings. Can you suggest an alternative neighborhood within close (preferably walking) proximity to most attractions? I stress CLOSE PROXIMITY because my 8 year old is not very good walker, and I expect we may end up dropping by at the hotel for a brief afternoon rest every day. Thank you. Vince. |
Hello Vince,
the subway system in Barcelona is excellent. The trains are very frequent, get you to most relevant places and it's also cheap and easy to navigate. As long as you have a place not too far from a subway station, you can use it to get close to the sights. But the region of that appartment is very convenient for your needs, in my opinion. It's in close proximity also to a pedestrian area, the harbour and also to places to eat something (though the Ramblas themselves are a little too touristy). But maybe something around the Placa de Catalunya might be nicer. Cheers, Hans |
I am not fond of Ramblas - it is nosy, touristy and too crowded..
Barcelona's attractions are all over the city. The subway system is excellent end cheap. We rented from www.habitataprtments.com and recommend the agency. Some places near lover part of Ramblas might not be the best spot to be at night. As someone said, most agencies require at least 3 days stay. Barcelona is not small, and there sooooo much to see. |
hi voj,
have you looked at the guides produces by our own maribel on www.maribelsguides.com? should be some great advice there on the relative merits of various parts of Barcelona. regards, ann |
Hi,
My family stayed in MH Liceo off Ramblas which was very convenient. Please refer to the link below for more information. Mind you, it was 2 years ago: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Catalonia.html Wismergirl |
Hi,
In July 2007, my family stayed in another MH property in Barcelona off Las Ramblas and both its location and price were very reasonable. It's MH Liceo on a side street and it was very new at that time. Please refer to the following Tripadvisor link if you need more info: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Catalonia.html Wismergirl |
