Barcelona logistics – car rental drop off
I’m seeking advice about the best location to drop off an Avis car rental in Barcelona.
I will be driving to Barcelona from Tossa de Mar. After returning the car, I will head to Montserrat (which I believe means that I should go to the Espanya rail station). Before leaving for Montserrat, I want to leave my main suitcase at either my hotel (near the Plaça de Catalunya) or in a left-luggage office. I suspect that leaving the car off sooner would be better than trying to drive in the city, but am not sure what options would best suit my needs.
Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Relatively easy driving in Barcelona, and it should be a small problem to find your hotel close to landmark Plaça de Catalunya and then leave the car at the main rail station Sants. From there it's a ten min walk or a two min taxi ride to the Espanya station.

We normally pick the car up at the AVIS location at C/ Còrsega, 293-295, but my usual recommendation is to drop the car off at the airport and take a taxi or the bus into the city. You can drive in from Tossa de Mar, but traffic can be a headache because of the one-way streets.

@ Robert -- The C/ Còrsega location is the one that I've been considering: It looks like I could get there reasonably easily, take a VERY short taxi ride to my hotel (assuming it will take my suitcase a day in advance -- I'm waiting to hear about that), and then a metro to the Espanya station. But you point to one of the complications I was hoping to avoid, namely, traffic headaches: if my GPS system is competent (always a question), would your recommendation remain the same? My primary goal is to keep the time to a minimum....

Perhaps best to do it the C/ Còrsega or Robert way if you want to avoid all kinds of traffic headaches ;-) My point was that Barcelona is very much straight and huge avenidas, at least between landmarks such as Plaça de Catalunya, Sants and Plaça Espanya.

But there are a lot of one-way streets, which can be a pain. Here is a website you can use to check conditions and see what's going on.
It's called Moving in Barcelona and it's in English:

@ kimhe &
@ Robert
Thank you both again! My hotel has agreed to take my baggage a day in advance, and since the hotel is near a metro station from which I can easily reach the Espanya station, and near the Avis office on C/ Còrsega, I think it would be most efficient to go to there rather than the Sants station. Always good to have a back-up plan, though, and I will keep an eye on the traffic!
