Barcelona Local Cuisine
We will be heading to Barcelona in a month. We have done a lot of research on restaurants. We wanted to ask you guys if you had any great recommendations for the wonderful Local family style run restaurants. The price point doesn't matter. We are just looking for those quality hidden down the backstreet type restaurant with great food. Thanking you in advance.

My favourite then would be Ca L'Estevet, one of those timeless places. Fabulous local food:
http://www.restaurantestevet.com/en/ https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...Catalonia.html And, of course, La Perla in Poble Sec at the foot of Montjuic. Local, family run and lunch only. Have had a few never to forget visits here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaura...Catalonia.html I also highly recommend Can Culleretes from 1786. The second oldest restaurant in Spain, fabulous atmospehre, affordable, no fuss service and traditional food, and very popular with locals, especially for lunch. I must always have a meal here when in Barcelona: http://www.culleretes.com/en/ And I must also mention 7 Portes from 1826, tons of Barcelona history in the walls, and the best rice/arroz/paella dishes + many other tradional Catalan specialities. Not hidden away, not local and family run, a bit expensive but as Barcelona as it gets: https://7portes.com/en/ |
Kimhe, thank you so much. They all look great.

We are back from Barcelona. We absolutely loved the city and everything about it.
I wanted to share with all of you the great experiences we had at the restaurants. Tast Ller - fabulous tasting menu experience. It is one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at in our travels. The Chef is amazing. We booked 6 weeks in advance as it is a small place. He is moving locations in September. 70 euro per person. Wine extra. L'Academia - another great menu and excellent service. Tapeo - great tapas bar. We went twice. Excellent food. Make sure you try the ribs that melt off the bone and the bread pudding for dessert which we didn't expect to taste that great. Somodo for lunch. During the weekdays, 20 euro tasting menu including wine. Amazing dishes. Thanks for your help everyone. We just wanted to share these places with you for future thought. |
Thanks, will look into Tast Ller. Tapeo and Somodó are also two of my favourite places in Barcelona. The Coca de sardina at Tapeo is to die for, and the gourmet lunch in Somodó is perhaps the best deal in town. https://tamarindandthyme.wordpress.c...odo-barcelona/

Kimhe, we agree!

We were in Barcelona for a week in April of last year. We had five meals at three of the restaurants Byron1 recommended - two at Tapeo, two at Café De L'Academia and one at Tast Ller. All were fantastic. We went back to L'Academia just to get the steak with truffled demi glace which was delicious. We went to some Michelin starred restaurants in Paris the following week but they had nothing on Tast Ller. Two other restaurants we enjoyed were Arcano and Llamber. All of these places are within a 10 minute walk of each other in the El Born or Berri Gothic neighborhoods.

Thank you for sharing your experience Byron - I am for sure going to try to go to Tast Ller in November, I had not heard of it before your post.

We are getting hungry to go again! Ha.
Letsgeaux, we agree. We've been to fine dining in Paris and honestly these restaurants we tried in Barcelona are amazing. Recently went to Per Se in New York City and had the tasting menu which was great but Tast Ller was right up there as a great experience for us. Thanks for the other choices. Next time. We are planning Chania Crete next year! I will start that thread in the Fall to get ideas. |
