Barcelona in March
 

My wife and I are thinking of going to Barcelona in March. What is a good area to stay that is safe and easy to get around without a car? Any suggestions for must see/do things?

I don't have good ideas about where to stay that is safe, but I believe we stayed at the Regencia Colon, which is quite near the cathedral. We liked it and certainly had no feelings that we were not safe.

I don't think that Barcelona is at all dangerous, but you have to be careful about pickpockets and sneak thieves. You have to be quite alert at all times, but nobody is going to hurt you physically.

I always wear a money belt with my big cash and my credit cards in it.

I also meant to say that you should not have a car in Barcelona. It will be a handicap. You probably need to get a guide book and look for suggestions as to what to see. I loved the Gaudi stuff--the Sagrada Familia, the block of discord, etc. The Palau de la Música was also gorgeous. There's lots to see in Barcelona.

The Eixample neighborhood is a nice area to stay; very convenient to sightseeing & it's safe. Within walking distance from Las Ramblas, Gothic Quarter & Born area.

The Barcelona subway and bus system is very efficient, although there aren't as many stations and lines as in a city like Paris. So in addition to area you may want to be sure you are not too far from a station.

Most of Eixample is a bit quieter than the Old City area. In El Born and Barri Gotic you may want to avoid small alleys. But really, Barcelona isn't more dangerous than most cities as long as you exercise prudence.

I have to say thta public transportation is very good in Barcelona, and if you stay in the city centre or in Eixample area, you will be well communicated with subways and buses. To be honest, driving a car would be very incovenient in Barcelona, as it is a city with great facilities for pedestrians and lots of traffic jams for car drivers.

Places to see: well, Barcelona is full of them!!! During my last visit I downloaded this Barcelona guide and it was q uite useful, so I share it with you, hope it helps!
