Barcelona Hotel near Rocafort Metro
We are looking for a moderate priced hotel near Rocafort Metro and Gran via 433. We are going to visit our son in Nov. who is studying in Barcelona. Any help with hotels and location would be greatly appreciated.

There are two hotels within two blocks of his address-
the AC Villamari, an up to date business class hotel

the Hotel Open, an older property, not as sleek as the AC hotels

Another new-ish, stylish hotel that's on the Gran Via (389) just 3 blocks away is the B Hotel. It's a member of the Nuñez-Navarro group.

I would choose the B or the AC over the Open.

Thank you. I will check these out. What location am I looking for when I go to maps and forums. How far is this from some of the popular areas of Barcelona? What is located in this area and is it a safe area? Thanks.

The location of your son's house is mid-way between two major squares:
the Plaça d'Espanya (where the Congress/Convention center is located) and the Plaça de la Universitat, which is a stop for the airport bus.
It's in the far Left Eixample residential neighborhood,
called the L'Esquerra de l'Eixample in catalán.
It's a very safe area, but a long walk, 13 blocks west, from the city's epicenter, the Plaça Catalunya. But you have the metro stop adjacent.
If you didn't need to be so close by where your son is living, if you could stay closer to, just west of, the Plaça Catalunya, on the Gran Vía, you'd be in better walking distance of major sightseeing. And you'd have more hotel options.

Thanks for the information. Where would you recommend and how far would it be? I am very open to suggestions. Is it best to book directly through the hotel or on one of the hotel/ travel sites or even a travel agent at home? Thanks for your help.

Hi gall1310,
I would book directly with the hotel.
I keep a spreadsheet comparing the Barcelona hotels' own rates and most of the often used booking sites.
It doesn't hurt to check the rates of some of those booking sites, but for Barcelona I haven't lately found a rate that beats the hotel's online booking rate.
I don't know what your budget is-"moderate" meaning different things to different folks, but I'd put the B Hotel and the AC Villamari in that category.
The other hotel options along the Gran Vía between the Rocafort metro stop and the Plaça de la Universitat, west of Plaça Catalunya are:
Hotel Soho, on corner of Villaroel
www.hotelsohobarcelona.com
Hotel Casanova by Rafael, corner of Casanova
www.rafaelhoteles.com
Hotel Advance, south of the Gran Vía at Sepúlveda and Casanova
www.hoteladvance.com
Just beyond the Plaça de la Universitat, you have
Hotel Jazz
www.hoteljazz.com
Hotel Grupotel Gravina
www.grupotel.com
Hotel H10 Universitat
www.h10hotels.com
But these last 3 would be an 11 block walk from your son's residence. Closer to what you'll want to see sightseeing wise, but further from where he lives. Don't know what is more important for you, but the above give you more options.
