Barcelona hotel: convenient but not hustle bustle city location & Madrid??

Hi I'm going solo to Barcelona the end of Oct for 7 days. I am thinking I don't want to be in a busy city location but do want a great location for sightseeing. I would like to be a close walk to most sites. I am not looking for the designer shopping experience. More architecture, art, gardens, cafés, boutiques...

Hotel: under $150 a night with breakfast and wifi

Suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Should I go to Madrid somehow also?

Thanks!!!!!

How can we tell you if you should go to Madrid if we don't know how long your entire ????

Also when is visit.. and what are your interests.

The more info you give posters the better answers they can offer.

$150 (€113)/night doesn't buy you much in Barcelona, even in low season. At least nothing convenient to everything you want to see.

The OP did say end of Oct and interests are: architecture, art, gardens, cafés, boutiques...

You can't walk to most sights in Barcelona as it's fairly spread out.

Try to find a hotel in Bari Gotic - that's where I would stay if I visit Barcelona again. Small streets with little vehicle traffic.

This is where the likes of Booking.com comes into play. You can choose the currency (what dollars are you writing about?), price range and facilities you need. Look on a map at locations too. Read the reviews to help you make your choice.

"don't want to be in a busy city location but do want a great location for sightseeing"

This is really a contradiction. As adrienne says, Barcelona's sights are spread across the city and if you want to be close to sightseeing, by definition you'll be in the city. Your budget looks like hostels, not hotels and it's unlikely you'll get breakfast included.

Try Hotel Regencia Colon in Barcelona, http://www.hotelregenciacolon.es/es/ ,
located just behind Hotel Colon, which in turn faces the Cathedral in Barri Gotic.

I do not know if the room rate includes breakfast. If not, you may walk 2 minutes to La Pallaresa Granja-Xocolateria (Carrer de Petritxol 11. Daily 9-13, & 16-21) for coffee Americano (steaming espresso diluted with hot milk), croissant and churros.

I will be staying at H10 Universitat. $120 with breakfast. Great reviews. Hopefully a good spot! I will be there 7 nights end of October. What is everyone's choice of transportation? Any day trip you would suggest?

Plan on staying at the Holiday Inn express with free breakfast. Using points.
