Barcelona hotel advice

I am thinking of taking my husband to Barcelona during either June, July or August. We really love heat and function just fine in it. However, I am torn between booking a room at Hotel Neri in the Gothic quarter - no pool - and Relais D'Orsa, which is located on Tibidabo and does have a pool. The only drawback is that we will spend some time travelling in and out of Barcelona to get to the hotel but at least will have a refreshing dip at the end of the day.

Any advice/views?

thanks!

Both are excellent hotels, so the decision comes down to where do you want to spend most of your time, in or out of the city. I'd go with the Hotel Neri in the Gothic quarter if you want to send more time in the city itself. If you want a little more peace and quiet, especially during the evening hours, the Relais D'Orsa will do nicely. Traveling back and forth shouldn't be an issue.

I also don't think you'll need to worry that much about the heat in July and August. Barcelona is nothing like Sevilla in the summer, but having a pool is always nice when you really want one.

For what it is worth: the last time we were in Barcelona was mid-August. Believe me, it was HOT and it was HUMID.

We booked at the Hotel Omm because it is in the Eixample and it has a pool on the roof.

Thanks so much Amy. What did you think of the hotel?

AllyPally: When you are prepared to listen to someone ELSE's view of Barcelona hotels just let us know.

Dear AllyPally,
I love the Hotel Neri and would book a room here any time of the year. I stayed here in June last year and it was hot some of the days, but we didn't mind. If it gets too hot you can always go to the beach...Barcelona is such a wonderful city and I would not waste time in a hotel pool, but if you really want to have the opportunity I have heard good things about AC Diplomatic.
Hope you have a fabulous stay!

We stayed at the Barcelona Universal last May. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Catalonia.html

Although it is not in the "thick" of things -- edge of the Raval, between Ramblas and Mt. J., I found it to be a very nice four star, very clean and recently updated. Pool on roof -- not too big probably gets busy when it's hot. Takes Bancotel coupons.

Personally, I would find Tibidabo too far from the heartbeat of the city. I would imagine there are quite a few hotels with pools in Barcelona. And then there's always the Mediterranean, eh?

Sorry Intrepid, are you being a total MORON? What's your point, exactly?
