Barcelona high season?
Does anyone know why October is considered high season for Barcelona?
I just noticed that hotel prices are higher for next month?
Are there any events, festivals..etc that I should be looking to check out during this time?
Thanks for any info!

trvindance,
There are 5 major trade fairs plus multiple congresses going on this October in Barcelona. Since the city has become a major European trade fair/congress destination and an extremely popular weekend destination for Europeans thanks to the low cost airlines, each year there's a shorter "low season" for hotel rates.
You can see "what's on" during the time of your visit, plus lots of other usful into, on the city's official tourism pages:

On the left, click on "agenda" under City Services then select your dates from the calendar.

Similar to paris it sounds where during the Fashion show in October it's high season for hotels, etc.
and July is actually an off-peak season according to the Paris tourist office - since conventions and business types are not coming that much but are vacationing elsewhere

We had out trip all planned for last May and when I started looking for hotels (six months out!) many of the mid-priced favorites from here or Tripadvisor were already booked. Most of the available ones had prices much higher than normal - eventually I found out there was a big medical meeting that week plus an auto race. We ended up renting an apartment to get a better price. There are alot of apartments in alll areas of the city and several rental agaencies - you may want to give that a try.
