Thanks Cafelnks! Very Nicely done, I've been contemplating a Barcelona trip next spring and am curious what length of time would you recommend.

Thanks Mike, glad you liked it.
In my opinion you should at least plan for 5 days in Barcelona. There are so many things to do and see. Moreover you can even plan for day trips to nearby places like Monseratt and Girona

Unfortunately for me, I just didn't have more than 2 days.

Hi C,

I would be more interested if it weren't for the advertising.

Yes Ira, I could not agree more. Just another cliched account of Barcelona with ho-hum pictures all in the name of trying to attract advertising.
What is with these vanity sites?

ira and Adu, If CafeInks' blog is a Google one, s/he can make some money if readers use those ads. I have one on my blog-google agreed to limit to one ad at a time and related to art on mine. I didn't read the ads but don't believe that CafeInks had any for him/herself.

And just how many ways can one describe touristy places, Adu? I didn't find CafeInks' TR clichéd-it was honest and nice and the shots were nice also.

That is the skill of writing and photography. If it were just another trip report no comment would be necessary. There wasn't any insight, basic facts were omitted, or reason to read on.

The Internet has prodcued so much garbage because it can. And it should not be tolerated. There are those who know, love, and understand Barcelona and thousands of other places and have written and photographed them and demand your attention. This wrtiing style, upbeat trite, is found every where. The difference is this person wants to make money from it.

Anyone who takes the time to do a TR should not have the word 'garbage' or 'trite' used about it. Adu, you are being unnecessarily unkind to OP.

"basic facts were omitted"--------so what? OP was only there 2 days. Give him a break.

I'm going back to bed.

Thanks TDudette for your support again! You're right, the ads are just the ubiquitous google ads.

Adu, I really fail to understand your condition. When I am investing my time and money in producing content (which btw barring you, all other people like and appreciate). I really do not mind in offsetting some of the domain and hosting cost via placing some non obtrusive google ads!

I am not selling or advertising anything whatsover. If I was running a website just for money, my TRs would have been just 100 words long and not 1000 words.

Seriously, It really hurts when people fail to appreciate the amount of effort and time that has gone in developing something. I've said it before and will say it again - Get Well Soon!

As noted, people write trip reports every day and do so without advertising. They do it help others and at their expense and use of their time.

Once it is done for money, it places in the commercial realm. It is done to help you and that to me, allows for the criticism.

There are people who know the places you write about very well and do not expect compensation. If you are going to write about a visit for money, then you need to add some insight, facts, or interesting not found elsewhere. And that is clearly not case.

I am not comparing myself with any expert and the writing that I have done is my personal opinion and experience of that particular place.

Did I sell you something to provide information?? Who says that ads can only be placed alongside facts and insights?? Did you see any advertising in the content itself? Your point is completely valid, had I been selling stuff or asking you money for the content!

Look around this page, Do you see ads? ..and you are perefectly OK for someone else to get the benefit of your writing!

If you are the beneficiary of the ads, then it is a commerical emterprise.

Does a TV sitcom sell something directly (unless there is product placement)? No, but they are the beneficiary.

And if you are getting money, then the standard on which are judged should be different. And it pure arrogance to visit Barcelona for two days and think you know a place well enough to offer advice especially about Gaudi and expect money as a reward.

I do not have this argument with people who write trip reports without hope of recompense. I rarely comment and then I do only if they have a gross inaccuracy, an uneducated opinion, or when one is well-written or interesting.

When I went to your website, I saw you had also written the one called Shimmering Paris. When I orginally saw that as a topic, I did not read it because it sounded like bad ad copy.
