Barcelona From Ship

Arriving in Barcelona via cruise ship and staying two days in port. Many of the tours are booked out. How far is the city from port and is it feasible to go into city on our own by cab or public transportation? Is nighttime to dangers to spend in the city on our own? We are in our 70's but very active. Walking 6 miles or more in a day is not unusual for us. This would be a dining and cultural experience for us.

It is about 10 minute cab ride into the city. There is a great range of activities and food. Probably the best thing for you is to go for tapas so that you can get small tastes of many different things. There are many areas where you can go from to another.

I would avoid the end of La Rambla nearest to the water at night. Otherwise it is like being in any big city to be aware of your surroundings.

We have had Barcelona as our port destination on at least 3-4 cruises.

Cruise transportation to city: about $25each and of course need to wait till bus fills up

Cab: lots available. $25 plus fee for luggage

Public bus: 3-4E but only after 8AM

Walk: 20 minutes if you have one rolling luggage plus a shoulder item

We stay down by the water end of La Rambla and I am by myself until at least 10pm and I'm 69F.

Many, but not all, cruise ships dock here:https://www.google.com/maps/place/Te...65!4d2.1762291

you can see for yourself that it is basically IN the city

Don't sweat the tours being filled! Either DIY, by making a plan and using public transportation, or maybe using the HOHO. Or try to book a small tour using your roll call and Tours by Locals. If you are going to DIY, try to pre-purchase tickets to the main attractions. It is a great city for walking about.

A few ships dock in very close but more book a bit of a ways out. Go to Cruise Critic - look for ports info Barcelona, look on for roll call, check out Tours by Locals. You will have a great time. Safety - just be a bit aware, there are many professional pick-pockets. Do not carry all your credit cards together and probably leave your passport on the ship. Take some cash to get around and one credit card. Cafes, restaurants are everywhere! Enjoy!
