Barcelona day trips = train or rental car

I need advise as to riding the train versus renting a car for day trips from Barcelona.

Thanks, Marge

It depend on where your want to visit from Barcelona. Having a car would be useful but we did comfortable day trips to Montserrat, Sitges and Girona by train.

Thanks for thr info. When you arrived by train did you have to get a cab or was it easy enough to walk? I would like to visit a vinyard - I suppose I would have to rent a car for that excursion.

Marge, we walked in all the above 3 places. No cab/no bus. From Girona railway station, we walked maybe less than 10 minutes to reach the old, interesting part of the city. With the other two, you have to walk much less from the station, besides Monserrat excursion involved aerial cable car which was fun.

Yes, that's what I thought although I haven't done vineyard visits in Spain.

Hi Marge,

In addition to the above day trips, you can take the train to the Freixenet vineyard, you don't need a car. This is the info I have:

Tour of the cava (Spain?s ?bubbly?) bodegas at Sant Sadurni d?Anoia: Very easy by train. Catch RENFE train from Placa de Catalunya or Sants station-departures hourly from 6am-10pm. Takes 45 min. As you exit train station, the Freixenet distilleries will be right in front of you. Tours given Mon-Thurs at 10a, 11:30a, 3:30p and 5, Fri at 10a and 11:30a and it?s free.

Marge,

Could you please post a report when you get back? We're going to Barcelona in July.

Thanks!

Congratulations, KAudrey, you spelled Freixenet correctly; but that's the Bodega, not the Vinyard.

I used to prefer Codorniu, but they merged with Freixenet a few years ago. Now I have Freixenet for all special occasions.

At Roger Wilco in New Jersey it costs about $7.75 for a 750ml bottle of Freixenet Brut.
